Simple Woman's Daybook

It's been a while my friends, and it feels good to be back!

Outside my window, the rain is falling softly on the trees. The sun isn't up yet, and it's a very peaceful feeling.

I am thinking that I needed this day, this calm.

I am thankful for my job, and a compassionate boss.

In the kitchen, coffee is fresh, the smell fills the house.

I am wearing comfy pajamas, with hubby's robe. He's out of town today, and wearing it makes me feel closer to him.

I am creating a cross stitch Christmas ornament. It's been in my work in progress pile for a year, maybe it'll be on the tree this year.

I am going nowhere today.

I am wondering if it will stay this dark, this peaceful most of the day.

I am looking forward to catching up today. Didn't sleep well last night, might need to nap, case analysis to be done for school, if I start now, I might get them done by the due date. And my cross stitch projects are screaming to me that they've been ignored.

Around the house it's quiet. We are officially empty nesters now. I want to put out my fall decorations, but with the boys not around to notice, I am having a hard time getting motivated

A quote for today, Peace comes from within, do not seek it without.

Plans for the rest of the week include getting back to work tomorrow, participating in the first 5K that has almost worked into my schedule in months, and going to the nursing home to see my dad.

Hope you have a wonderful day, thanks for stopping by!

Mug o' Comfort

When you sat down to your computer to surf your favorite blogs, did you happen to bring along a cup of your favorite comforting drink, maybe coffee, hot tea or cocoa? Do you have a favorite cup you like to drink out of?  I do. I have an oversized mug my boys gave me when I started homeschooling them, years ago. It has a cute little teacher saying, and it's my favorite mug to use, despite the fact that my cabinets are overflowing with cute little coffee cups, and simple ones that match my dishes.  Because I find a warm beverage so comforting, and the growing collections of cups makes me smile, I've signed up for the latest swap hosted by Chaotic Goddess Swaps

I've received so many wonderful things in the swaps I've done with Chaotic Goddess, I couldn't pass up on this one! All you have to send is a mug, filled with goodies the recipient would love. I can't wait to go shopping for this one, once I've been matched with my partner. There's still time to join, just follow the link, I promise, you won't be disappointed!

Here we go again!

Hello my blogging friends.  Just when I thought we were headed for Spring, here we are, another snow storm coming down on us. It was so beautiful yesterday, although it was only in the 40's, it was enjoyable to be outside. And tonight, the snow is coming down fast and thick.  I'm not sure exactly what I want to see when I wake up! If we have only 5-6 inches, I'll be driving to my patients through the drifts. If it's quite a bit more than that, we're snowed in, the kids and I.  Either way, I'm not sure I  like my options. It's out of my control either way, I'll just pray for the best.

I've been quite busy the past few weeks, as you can guess from my absence. I have managed to work on a few projects, around everything else.

I was so relieved to finish my large stitching project at Christmas, I decided I needed something small, that could be done quickly. I had a pillow from Pine Mountain Designs that I thought would be perfect, and it was. I completed this in a little over a week, I loved, loved, loved the colors in it

After I finished this, I pulled out some WIP's from last year and am making progress on them, I just haven't taken pictures of them yet.

I've also worked on some scrapbooking. I've got so many pictures to catch up on, I'll still be doing my kids pictures when I have grandkids!  The first layout is using the paper pack Babycakes from Close To My Heart. This paper is still available in the catalog. Although the paper pack has some prints  intended for use with babies, the back of the paper worked perfectly for these photos from our trip to the Dominican Republic last year. By the way, I never scrapbook in order, I just work with whatever photos I pick at the moment.

As another example of out of order, this layout uses photos from my husband's camping trip in 2008!

I only need to add my journaling to these layouts, and they will be completed. I've told my hubby that when the fishing pictures are all on the layouts, we will sit and do the journaling together. It was his trip, so I decided the memories should be his to share.

Seems this has been minimal progress to show on this post. We've had enough activity happening around our homestead, I haven't had the energy for much else. I don't know if I've shared before, we moved my father in law in with us several months ago, after he was discharged from a hospital. We've had some challenges caring for him. Trying to keep his Diabetes under control was enough of a challenge, then he started falling, multiple falls, daily. Last week, we finally found out the reason for the falls, Grandpa has been the victim of multiple strokes since he's been with us. He spent a couple of days in ICU, and is now safely in a rehab facility for a couple of weeks. I am hopeful he will be stronger with their help, and can be back with us after that.

Just before the trip to the ICU with Grandpa, hubby and I spent a wonderful weekend in Gatlinburg Tennessee. We traveled down to celebrate the wedding of some friends, and decided a long weekend was just what we needed. We rented a one bedroom cabin on a hillside. Since it was offseason, the crowds weren't bad, although the trees were still bare. We took advantage of the 70 degree days, and hiked in the Smoky Mountains, and relaxed in the hot tub in the evenings. It was a much needed escape. We'd love to go back again, maybe in the fall, while there are still some leaves on the trees.

With the snow continuing to fall tonight, I'm going to turn back to my stitching. Until my pager goes off early in the morning, I don't know whether I'm headed out, or stitching all day. I'm going to make the most of this snow while I can. Thanks for visiting my friends, stay safe and warm!

Simple Pleasures

I know so many of us are getting tired of all the snow, all the cold air blowing around. I have always loved winter, and this one is no different, I love it. However, at 6:30 this morning, when I pulled my little Prius out of the garage and started my day, I was a little grumbly. This morning I was tired, and cold, and didn't want to be driving down a dark lonely road that early. As I followed the winding curves leaving our neighborhood, my headlights showed such a beautiful sight....the snow. Yes, I said it, the snow was beautiful. In the peaceful morning with no other cars around, I could see sparkles playing across the untouched white drifts, and it made me smile. I decided it was a beautiful morning, I was on my way to touch the lives of families dealing with more heartache than I have right now. As I drove along, I was thankful for the snow, thankful for my job, thankful for simple things of beauty in an ordinary day.

Hope you've had a wonderful day, full of simple pleasures.

A New Year, A New Blog Party

Welcome to my blog, I'm so glad you stopped by! If you've found my blog through Vickie at 2Bagsfull, I hope you're enjoying the Party!  Last year, I participated in Vickie's Grow Your Blog Party, and met several new friends. I'm hoping to find some new blogs this year also, and I think a person can never have too many friends!

A little about my blog-I started this a couple of years ago in am attempt to jump start my business as an independent consultant. I kept reading that the way to increase business was to have an internet presence. I tried it, but in the process, I decided that really wasn't the way I wanted to increase my sales.  I love my scrapbooking, but after ten years, I continue with the business more for the relaxation than to make any money. In short, I don't push my product.

So, if I don't have this blog to promote my business anymore, why do I continue? I've met some wonderful new people. I share the things I enjoy-sometimes it's a scrapbook layout, a card I made or my cross stitch. I have been a cross stitcher since my college roommate taught me back in the 80's. It is a craft I love, and I have a lot of patterns waiting to be stitched. Occasionally, I even share a little about my family or our travels. With the job I started recently, there hasn't been much travel, but I'm thinking I'm getting adjusted to working again, and the weather will warm up soon, so I'll be on the road again. I love to travel, but it's always good to be back home in Indiana!

I hope you'll decide to come back and visit from time to time. I look forward to reading comments from my visitors, so feel free to share. Thanks for stopping by!

A Happy Hello

Good morning my blogging friends! Since it's been forever, I guess I should say Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year! I have had quite the hiatus, but I am happy to say that I am finally starting to find some balance, and am looking forward to visiting here more often.

Do you wonder just what I have been doing, since I haven't been blogging? Well, plenty I can tell you! I am finally starting to get the whole picture, of my job as a hospice nurse. I was totally unprepared for what I was getting into, but I love what I do. I am putting a lot of miles on my little car-I never bought the SUV I was hunting for, my little Prius gets such good mileage, I couldn't give it up. I am all set up with a traveling office and medical supply in my car, it's coming together.

Another recent event is having an aged family member move in with us. I think this has been a greater adjustment than my job. We have all pitched in as a family, taking care of my father in law. There is still a big learning curve here, but we figure it out day by day.

Have I done any crafting? Yes! I was able to actually complete a couple of scrapbook layouts over the holidays, while we were snowed in. It's been a long time since I completed a layout with journaling and all, I was long overdue for some paper time. I haven't taken any pictures to post, but nonetheless, something complete.

And, I have completed some cross stitch! I had a piece I was anxious to complete before Christmas, and I did. My project was for my son and his wife, and they came up from TN to celebrate before Christmas, so I had to rush the last few days. I was very pleased with the final result, and I think the kids were too

It was not easy to get a real good picture, with such light colors, and the glare from the glass. This was a wedding sampler, with the kids names and wedding date. I found the frame and mat at Hobby Lobby, they really set off the sepia tones of the threads. I loved doing this piece, but I was happy to move on to something with a little more color after this. Later this week, I'll post my other finish, the first for 2014!

I am happy to be able to be back and post a quick hello and update this morning. However, it's time to fill my travel cup, and hit the road. It's a little foggy this morning, and I want to give myself a little extra time traveling the dark country roads.

Hope you have a wonderful day, thanks for stopping by!
